Famous Texas architect Alfred E. Finn designed this large brick structure as the I&GN Railroad Employees’ Hospital, which was opened on July 1, 1922. It served as the hospital for the railroad until 1970. The building to the right of the hospital was built in 1924 as a separate nurse's quarters designed by Theodore S. Maffitt.
